Safe Paws (safeforpaws.com) is a personal pet safety website run by me, Md Astafar Hossain, from Dhaka, Bangladesh. This page explains what the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. It's written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version: I don't sell your data, I don't run ads, and I don't track you around the internet. The details below are the honest specifics.
What the site collects
When you leave a comment. The name, email address and any website you type into the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user-agent string. The name and comment are shown publicly; your email address is not. The IP and user-agent are used for spam detection and are checked against the Akismet anti-spam service, this means that data is shared with Akismet (operated by Automattic) for that purpose. Akismet's privacy policy.
When you send me a message. Whatever you put in the contact form or email, your name, email address, and your message. I use it to reply to you, and for nothing else.
When you simply read a page. My web host records standard server logs (IP address, page requested, time, browser type). This is normal web-server behavior and is used for security and to keep the site running.
Cookies. If you leave a comment, WordPress may save your name, email and website in a cookie so you don't have to retype them next time, this lasts about a year, and you can decline it by leaving that box unchecked. The site also uses a caching plugin to load pages faster, which may set a technical cookie. There are no advertising or tracking cookies on this site.
Embedded content. Some pages may embed content from other sites (a video, for example). Those sites can collect data about you exactly as if you had visited them directly. I don't control that, and their privacy policies apply.
What the site does not do
- No ads and no ad networks. No advertising cookies, no retargeting, no data brokers.
- No analytics tracking you across sites. I don't build profiles of visitors.
- No selling or renting your data. Not to anyone, ever. There is no scenario where I do this.
- No mailing list, unless one is added later, and then only if you ask to join it.
If any of this changes, this page changes first, with the date at the top updated.
Who else can see it
Only the services needed to run the site: my web host (which stores the site and its data), and Akismet (spam filtering, as above). That's it. Nobody else receives your information unless the law requires it.
How long it's kept
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely, so follow-up replies still make sense, you can ask me to delete yours at any time. Messages you send me are kept as long as they're useful for the conversation, then deleted. If you register an account (most readers don't need to), you can see, edit, or delete your personal information at any time, except your username.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask me to:
- Show you what personal data I hold about you
- Correct anything that's wrong
- Delete it, I'll do it unless I'm legally required to keep it
Depending on where you live, local law (such as the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California) may give you additional rights. I'll honor those requests regardless of where you're writing from, it's simpler and fairer than checking your postcode first.
Ask through the contact page. I answer every message personally, and I won't make you jump through hoops to get your own data removed.
Where your data is processed
I'm based in Bangladesh and the site's readers are mostly elsewhere, so your information may be stored or processed in a country other than your own, including by my web host and the services listed above.
Children
This site is written for adults looking after pets. It isn't directed at children, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you think a child has sent me their information, tell me and I'll delete it.
Security, honestly stated
The site uses HTTPS, keeps its software updated, and runs a security plugin. That said, no website can promise perfect security, and I won't pretend otherwise. Please don't send me anything sensitive, I only need enough to answer your question.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and significant changes will be noted on this page rather than slipped in quietly.
Contact
Questions about privacy, or a request about your data: use the contact page. It reaches me directly.
